The KNMI weather bureau has issued a code yellow weather warning for coastal provinces, saying strong winds will hit the west of the Netherlands on Wednesday afternoon.

The day started cloudy with showers but will turn dry in the afternoon and there will be some sunshine. The temperature is high for the time of the year, and could be as much as 21 Celsius in the south east, the KNMI said.

The wind will gather in strength throughout the day, shifting from south to southwest, and strong gusts of up to 100 kph can be expected along the northwest coast. The wind will die down overnight.

Thursday will have sunny spells and it will be dry for much of the day, but showers may move into the north west and south east during the afternoon. It will also be warm for the time of year, with the temperature ranging from 14 Celsius in the north to 19 Celsius in the south.

The KNMI’s longer range forecast is for more of the same over the weekend, although it will be slightly cooler.
