D66 group leader Jetten self isolating after testing positive for coronavirus

The leader of the D66 parliamentary group, Rob Jetten, has become the latest politician to test positive for coronavirus.

The 33-year-old was already in quarantine after being notified last week that he had been in close contact with an infected person. He took a test after experiencing mild symptoms over the weekend.

Jetten broke the news in a video message on Twitter. ‘I feel otherwise fit and am continuing to work,’ he said.

‘I have to be honest and admit that the 24 hours after you take the test and are waiting for the result are very stressful,’ he said. ‘And when it says “positive” it comes as a shock.’

Jetten took over as interim D66 leader two years ago following the resignation of Alexander Pechtold, but did not contest the leadership election in the summer which was won by international development minister Sigrid Kaag.

On Monday education minister Arie Slob abandoned a parliamentary debate to go into quarantine after learning that a member of his staff had tested positive for the virus. Slob, 58, has not developed Covid-19 symptoms.
