The number of newly reported coronavirus cases in the Netherlands reached 2,223 in the 24 hours to Monday morning, according to new figures from the public health institute RIVM.
The figure, up 350 on Sunday, is the highest recorded since early June when testing was opened up to everyone with symptoms.
Officials also said 27 people were taken to hospital and a further two people who had tested positive for the virus had died.
The RIVM will publish its next weekly round-up on Tuesday.
The number of coronavirus patients in hospital has now risen to to 410, the highest number since June 10. Experts expect a continued increase and some patients are already being moved to other hospitals to ease the pressure on other healthcare services.
In total, more than 95,000 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the Netherlands since the start of the pandemic, although the real total is likely to be higher.
