Two die in swimming accidents as strong currents sweep across Dutch coast
A man who got into difficulty in the sea while trying to rescue three children on Sunday has died of in hospital, police have confirmed.
The man, a 37-year-old Polish national, went into the sea at the resort of Julianadorp in Noord Holland to help the children, who were not his own. The children were brought to safety but he disappeared under the waves.
Earlier on the Sunday walkers found the body of a 15-year-old boy who was swept away in strong currents at Monster, Zuid-Holland, on Friday.
Sea rescue workers have issued warnings about very strong currents at several Dutch beaches. On Thursday, three teenagers had to be rescued after they were caught in a rip current near Callantsoog.
