A stray dog that has been roaming around Western Europe for months has been sighted in Didam in Gelderland, local broadcaster Omroep Gelderland reports.

The dog, a Brittany spaniel, started its journey in Switzerland and has since travelled over 2,000 kilometers, eluding teams of experienced dog catchers along the way.

‘It is a miracle he is alive at all after crossing so many roads,’ Wouthilde Knevel of animal rescue organisation Amivedi Doetinchem told the broadcaster.

The last sighting of the dog was in Didam on Sunday. The public is warned not to approach him because he is shy and wary of people.

‘We hope to keep him in one place. If we catch him he will go to an animal rescue centre to see if he can be re-socialised, and then perhaps we can find him a new home,’ Peter Zijlmans of dog charity Honden Zoekgroep said.
