The record eight-day heatwave is set to end on Thursday evening, as storms move over most of the country in the late afternoon and evening.

The KNMI weather bureau says the storms will bring winds of up to 70kph, along with heavy rain and hail. There could also be some localised flooding. Overnight it will be dry, and around 20 Celsius in the south.

Friday will be mainly cloudy with localised thunderstorms, and the temperature will range from 25 Celsius on the coast to 29 Celsius inland.

The wind will turn northwards in the evening, bringing more cloud and showers, with temperatures in the mid 20s. The unsettled picture is similar at the weekend and into next week, the KNMI said.
