A steakhouse in Drenthe has closed on the advice of health officials after two people working in the restaurant tested positive for coronavirus.

The wife of the owner and a member of staff at Ribhouse Big Texas in Wanneperveen have caught the virus, along with a third person living in the village, the local safety board for IJsselland confirmed.

Enquiries are being carried out to trace the source of the infection. Spokeswoman Karla Kuiperij said the investigation was focusing on ‘close contacts of people who have tested positive.’

All reservations at the restaurant on Veneweg have been cancelled and the takeaway counter has also been closed. Its website says it has been closed because of ‘personal circumstances’.

Owner Nader Sadeghianpour said his wife had been tested by the family doctor after suffering from headaches, but the positive test was unexpected. ‘We were very shocked, but fortunately her symptoms are mild. She is staying at home,’ he told Dagblad van het Noorden.
