Nineteen more deaths from Covid-19 have been reported in the last week in the Netherlands, bringing the total to 6,132.

The public health agency RIVM published its first bulletin since it switched from daily to weekly updates at the start of July. It shows 432 new cases were recorded in the last seven days while nine new hospital admissions were recorded.

Some of the cases and at least one of the deaths date back to early May because of delays in collecting data from regional safety boards.

The figures also show vast differences in the infection rate between provinces. In the last two weeks the number of new cases ranged from one in Drenthe to 386 in Zuid-Holland.

According to analysis from the RIVM 44% of infections were contracted in a  known setting. Of these 55% were traced to the home and just under 19% in wider family groups.

Nursing homes and residential care for the elderly account for a further 11.3% altogether. Another 11.1% of patients were infected at work while 0.7% – or three cases – were traced to schools and creche facilities.

Just 1.7% of cases are traced to a recreational setting such as a sports club while 0.7% of patients were infected by another passenger while travelling. No cases of infection were recorded in bars, restaurants or cafes, though this category has only been included since July 1.
