With schools in the north of the country officially now on holiday, the weather has taken a turn for the worse, and the rain and wind will last well into the week, weather forecasters say.

In particular, northern parts will be hit by rain on Monday, and it will be windy everywhere, especially on the the coast. Tuesday will be largely dry but windy, with temperatures reaching no higher than 18 Celsius.

On Wednesday there will again be showers and the sun may make an appearance on Thursday but it will still feel chilly in the wind. On Friday, rain is forecast, particularly in the morning but there will be some sunny spells.

The KNMI’s long range forecast says there is a 60% to 70% chance of drier weather moving into mid July but that temperatures will remain below the seasonable average.
