Dutch coronavirus death toll rises by two, as positive test total rises
The number of positive coronavirus tests in the Netherlands rose by 239 on Sunday to 47,574 as the impact of mass testing continued, according to the latest update from the national public health institute RIVM.
Everyone with symptoms has been able to request a test since June 1 and by Friday the government hotline set up to deal with test requests had been phoned 500,000 times.
Some 10,000 tests a day had been carried out, which is well below the official capacity of 30,000.
The official death toll rose by just two to 6,013, but weekend figures always low because of the time lag in reporting. Nevertheless, this is the lowest figure since March 11, when just one death was reported.
A further four people have been admitted to hospital, taking that total to 11,789.
