Covid-19 deaths in Netherlands pass 3000, intensive care numbers falling
Another 189 coronavirus deaths have been reported by the public health institute RIVM, bringing the total for the Netherlands to 3,134.
The figure is the second highest daily increase since the outbreak began and is partly explained by administrative delays over the Easter weekend, the RIVM said in its latest update. In previous weeks reported deaths have peaked on Tuesday.
Other figures continued to reflect a slowdown in the rate of infection. The number of hospital admissions increased by 188 to 9,137, while the number of positive tests fell to its lowest level since March 23.
Another 734 cases were recorded, ranging from five in Groningen and Zeeland to 193 in Zuid-Holland. Altogether 28,153 people are now known to have contracted the virus.
Latest figures for intensive care show the number of Covid-19 patients is continuing to fall. On Sunday 1,257 people were being treated for coronavirus symptoms in intensive care units, compared to a peak of 1,329 on April 7, according to Stichting NICE.
