Pay rises agreed so far this year hit a 17-year high: employers group
New pay deals sealed so far this year give workers an average salary increase of 3.3%, a 17-year high, according to figures from employers organisation AWVN.
Wages have shot up most in the chemicals, transport, food and hospitality industries, AWVN has told the Financieele Dagblad.
In total, 63 new pay agreements covering 500,000 workers have been signed so far this year.
The organisation expects pay rises to average over 3% over 2020 as a whole.
Last year, the government’s macro-economic think-tank CPB said it expected wages to rise by an average of 2.5% in 2020, and said spending power would rise by 2.1%.
Pay and conditions agreements (CAOs) in the Netherlands are usually binding across an entire sector and cover more than one year.
