With space at a premium, Airline Transavia is introducing cabin luggage fees

Dutch holiday airline Transavia will introduce fees for some cabin luggage services from the end of March, the Telegraaf reported on Wednesday.

The paper says passengers who want to be sure their luggage remains in the cabin will have to pay a fee of between €10 and €30 for a return flight.

‘If passengers want to take larger pieces of luggage into the cabin, there is a good chance that they may end up in the hold because there is limited space,’ a spokeswoman said.

The airline, which is part of KLM, is also going to be stricter in the way it applies restrictions on weight and size to cabin luggage at the gate, she said.

Passengers who pay for cabin luggage will also have priority when it comes to boarding, so they can place their bags close to their seats.

Budget airlines such as Ryanair and Wizzair are already working on introducing fees for hand baggage.
