A driver who was caught speeding at more than 200 km/h faces losing his licence for four months.

The 21-year-old from Schiedam was pulled over after being detected by a speed trap on the A16 at Prinsenbeek, near Breda. Police cars had to travel at more than 250km/h to overtake him, NOS reported.

Under prosecution service guidelines the driver can expect to have his licence suspended for four months, but police can also propose an alternative penalty of a €1,200 fine, a compulsory retraining course and a point on the driver’s licence.

Motorists who refuse to attend the training course or commit a second offence within five years face having their licence revoked, meaning they have to take another driving test before they can go back on the road.
