Eight Dutch restaurants added to Michelin starred list

Eight restaurants in the Netherlands have acquired a Michelin star in the latest edition of the guide, which was unveiled on Monday.

The total number of restaurants with the distinction has increased by one to 111. Five one-star establishments have lost their star while two have ceased trading, including the three-starred De Leest in Vaassen.

The newly starred establishments are Beluga Loves You and Rantrée, both in Maastricht, Graphite by Peter Gast in Amsterdam, Eden in Valkenswaard, Marrees in Weert, Versaen in Ravenstein, Noble Kitchen in Cromvoirt, and Zout en Citroen in Oosterhout.

All 17 two-starred restaurants kept their awards, while De Librije in Zwolle and Inter Scaldes in Kruiningen are the only Dutch three-star eateries following the closure of De Leest. The latter’s owners said they wanted to tackle new challenges after 17 years in the business.

The first Dutch copy of the 2020 guide was presented to the wife and daughter of chef Lucas Rive, who died in December at the age of 57. Rive ran the kitchen at De Bokkedoorns in Overveen for 22 years, retaining its two stars throughout.

At the same ceremony Cas Pikaar, from Doyy in Eindhoven, received the Young Chef Award, Peter Bruins of De Bokkedoorns was given the Service Award and Koen van der Plas, of Kasteel Heemstede in Houten, was named sommelier of the year.
