Bol.com to move into clothing ahead of Amazon launch in the Netherlands

Dutch online retailer Bol.com is planning to start selling clothes within a few months to head off competition from Amazon, which is thought to be planning to move into the Netherlands next year, the Financieele Dagblad said on Monday.
Sources have told the FD that Bol.com is approaching a number of major names and that the plan will be rolled out in January. Bol.com has not confirmed the move but told the FD such an expansion would be ‘logical’.
Amazon.nl only sells books at the moment, but Emerce reported last month that the company was planning to launch a broad Dutch site in 2020. It currently sells a wide range of products in the Netherlands via its German unit.
Bol.com already sells sports clothes and footwear but not fashion.
