Rotterdam football club Feyenoord, thrashed 4-0 by arch rival Ajax at the weekend and currently languishing in 12th place in the Eredivise, has parted ways with manager Jaap Stam.
It was Stam’s first season at De Kuip. The 47-year-old moved over to Rotterdam from PEC Zwolle this summer.
‘The trainer had our support and the players wanted to continue with him as well,’ said technical director Sjaak Troost in a short statement. ‘But if someone says they no longer believe in what they are doing… then we have to respect that.’

The rest of the club’s technical staff will take over Stam’s job until a replacement can be found. Both the AD and Voetbal International are tipping Dick Advocaat for the job.
