The Dutch safety board is investigating an incident earlier this month at Schiphol airport in which a pilot attempted to take off from a taxiway.

The incident, reportedly involving a Transavia plane, happened after air traffic control had given the plane permission to take off. The pilot, however, took the aircraft to a taxiway and had already started the takeoff procedure when air traffic control intervened.

Broadcaster NOS put a fragment of audio on line on Tuesday evening in which a voice is heard to say ‘Transavia 1041, stop immediately, stop immediately’, followed by another voice saying ‘1041 stopping’.

The safety board has not confirmed that a Transavia plane was involved.
