Red light for valet parking as complaints about damage hit 110 this summer
Schiphol airport’s police force has received 110 complaints about valet parking companies so far this year, broadcaster NOS said on Friday.
Travellers have reported being confronted by damage to their cars, vandalism, mysterious extra kilometres on the clock and traffic fines, all of which happened while they were away.
Earlier this year, Haarlemermeer town council issued a warning about valet parking companies, which travelers use to avoid expensive parking tickets at the airport itself.
The council said there had been rapid growth in the number of valet parking firms and warned passengers not all offered the same quality and service.
The police say people using valet services should take photographs of the vehicle and the mileometer before they leave and always report any problems to both the police and the company.
On Friday, the AD reported about a family who returned from holiday to find their car had been in a crash, had 1,400 extra kilometres on the clock and two speeding tickets.
