Government launches grants of up to €10,000 for home insulation

Home owners who plan to carry out at least two major projects to improve insulation will soon be able to apply for a government grant of up to €10,000.

The cabinet has set aside €84m to fund the scheme, which will give owners a grant to cover around 20% of the cost up to a maximum of €10,000. The exact percentage will depend on personal circumstances, a spokesman for housing minister Kasja Ollongren told RTL Nieuws.

Measures which would be covered by the scheme include insulating walls or floors or using special insulating glass. The grant will be paid retrospectively, once the work has been carried out.

The government ran a similar scheme in 2016, but that was halted in April 2017 after the funding ran out.

The government is phasing out the use of gas as a source of heating and cooking in the Netherlands but there are fears home owners will be faced with huge bills for improving the energy efficiency of their premises when the use of gas is phased out.
