People trying to sell tickets for next year’s Zandvoort Formula 1 grand prix will find themselves in trouble if they ask more than the actual price, the organisers have told broadcaster NOS.

More than one million people applied for tickets for the race, the first on the Dutch circuit in 35 years. Tickets were allocated by lottery and applicants were told on Tuesday if they had managed to get tickets for the event.

But within hours, some were up for sale on websites such as Marktplaats, for vastly inflated prices.

The ticket conditions do allow sale to third parties but only for the regular price. ‘People asking inflated prizes have nothing to do with sport and we are going to tackle them,’ spokesman Jan Lammers told broadcaster NOS.

‘I wish everyone who buys one via Marktplaats good luck because they will end up standing in front of a closed door,’ he said.  ‘We are keeping quiet about the methods we will use to identify such tickets, but they will find out.’

The race will take place in May 2020, but the date has not yet been set.
