Angry naturists have objected to plans to build an observation tower next door to a campsite in Hellevoetsluis, claiming it will destroy their privacy.

The local council wants to build the tower so that passing cyclists and walkers can view a planned solar energy park neighbouring the campsite.

But visitors say the location will leave them exposed to spectators and ‘attract the wrong sort of people’. ‘We’re happy to strip off, but for people we know, not strangers,’ one camper told RTV Rijnmond.

The municipality dropped the tower from its provisional area plan, but has included it in the final version. The campsite has lodged an objection.

A spokesman for the municipality said that the campers’ concerns would be taken into account when designing the height and position of the tower. ‘The aldermen said a while ago that it is not their intention to allow people to peer in to the campsite from an observation post.’
