Mini-heatwave on the way with up to 39 degrees in inland areas

July 22, 2019
Feet on beach, summer, warm weather

Feet on beach, summer, warm weatherThe Netherlands is bracing itself for a possible heatwave as the first full week of the school holidays gets under way, with temperatures climbing as high as 39 degrees by midweek.

Weather bureau Weeronline said Wednesday and Thursday would be the hottest days, ranging from 31 in the far north to 38 in the south-east, with isolated spots reaching 39. A light south-easterly breeze will keep coastal areas a few degrees cooler.

Monday will be dry and bright with around 25 degrees in the south-east and 22-24 degrees elsewhere, while Tuesday will see the first 30-degree temperatures in most areas.

On Friday and at the weekend the mercury will dip back down into the mid-twenties, with possible showers and thunderstorms. Next week is expected to bring a return to more average seasonal temperatures in the low to mid-twenties.
