D-day flag to be gifted to America by Dutch art collector

July 12, 2019

A Dutch art collector will hand over a historic American flag brought to Europe on D-day, during Mark Rutte’s visit to the White House next week.

The flag, which touched European land when the Allies invaded Normandy bringing on the end of WWII, will be handed to president Trump by collector Bert Kreuk in a ceremony.

It is then expected to be placed in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, reports the NOS broadcaster. The gift commemorates the 75th year since D-day, and Kreuk bought the flag for €450,000 in an auction in Dallas.
