Youngsters fly the nest later, half 22-year-olds still live at home

There has been a slight increase in the length of time youngsters remain living with their parents, with students in particular staying longer at home, according to new figures from national statistics agency CBS.

Students now live an average of a year longer with their parents than they did in 2012. This is probably due to students being unwilling to build up debts since the abolition of student grants several years ago, the CBS said.

On average, people now leave home at the age of 23 years and six months, about nine months later than in 2012. Nevertheless, nearly 30% of 25-year-olds are still living with their parents, as are 8% of 30-year-olds.
