Dutch railway company NS on Friday reduced rush hour train services for the third time in a week after a new band of snow swept over the country.

NS said that reduced services in the east and southeast and on the Amsterdam Eindhoven route would last until at least 10am.

The KNMI weather bureau issued a code yellow weather warning for the entire country but said least snow is likely to fall in the north.

The ANWB motoring organisation also warned drivers to beware of slippery conditions on the roads but the transport ministry’s roads department said there were few problems during the rush hour apart from a few lane closures.

Temperatures are due to rise in the afternoon and will reach four degrees in the south. More rain and sleet is likely in the evening, the KNMI said.

Friday night will see light frosts in many places. Saturday will be chilly with some sunny spells and snow showers, with temperatures similar to Friday. The picture is similar on Sunday and into next week.
