Winter could be with us at the end of January, weather forecasters say
Wintry weather with frost and snow could be on its way by the end of the month, according to Dutch weather bureaus.
While the relatively warm temperatures will continue for the next two weeks at least, computer simulations show a shift towards freezing temperatures from January 21 for a two week period, weather bureau Weerplaza says.
‘There would appear to be a classic winter situation on its way for the Netherlands later in January,’ weather forecaster Raymond Klaassen said. ‘So I would not put away your winter wardrobe quite yet, and keep your skates close at hand. You never know.’
The KNMI and Weerlonline long-range forecasts both also suggests that there is a increasing likelihood of ‘colder weather with possible snow or sleet’ towards the end of the month.
In the meantime the current mixture of rain and dry periods with day temperatures of around seven or eight degrees is set to continue, the KNMI says. There could, however, be some light snow in southern parts of Limburg.
