Speeding delivery vans create dangerous traffic situations: VVN

Delivery vans are creating unsafe situations in residential areas, with peaks in incidents occurring during the festive season, traffic safety organisation Veilig Verkeer Nederland said on Monday. .
According to VVN, which bases its finding on reports made by the public, ordering goods via the internet may save on private journeys but also increases delivery traffic with drivers who are regularly speeding in 30 km zones.
It blames same day delivery which puts pressure on drivers and the fact that drivers are being paid per delivery.
‘In some streets there will be around 40 delivery vans a day. If that trend continues that might double in a year. Speeding and parking willy-nilly will also increase,’ VNN director Alphons Knuppel said.
There are no specific figures to determine the involvement of delivery vans delivering packages ordered online in accidents but according to the VNN it had ‘some 10 to 20 reports’ from members of the public.
