Grandmother takes home wrong baby from daycare centre

A Dutch grandmother picked up the wrong baby boy from the daycare centre where he was being looked after and reached her home before the creche workers realised their mistake, the Eindhovens Dagblad reported.

The daycare centre staff did not have the women’s phone number either, so it took some time to alert her to the problem.

‘We were able to find her address via her daughter and we were able to pick up the child as quickly as we could,’  Claudia Wittens, owner of the Kinderkamer daycare centre said.

The grandmother in question had noticed something was wrong but thought it was because her grandson had been ill the day before. ‘These are two babies of three months who do look very similar,’ Wittens told the paper.

Neither set of parents is removing their child from the creche, which shows that they still trust us, she said. ‘I have also spoken to the grandmother who is very upset that she did not recognise her own grandchild.
