Two goals within five minutes from Dušan Tadić propelled Amsterdam football club Ajax into the Champions League round of 16 for the first time in 13 years on Tuesday evening.

The 0-2 victory against AEK in Greece was enough to assure Ajax of a place in the knock-out stage of the competition, which begins after the winter break.

Tuesday’s win means Ajax boost their bank balance by some €60m – simply reaching the round of 16 guarantees teams a premium of €9.5m, broadcaster NOS reported.

The Amsterdammers meet Bayern Munich on December 12 at the Johan Cruyff stadium to decide who goes top of Group E. The German side is currently ahead on goal difference.
