Single parents most likely to be lonely, one in five miss social contact


Despite having children, single parents are the most likely to feel lonely in the Netherlands, according to new research by the national statistics office CBS.
The research shows some 35% of the population are lonely at times, of whom 7% are very lonely, the CBS said on Wednesday.
Almost one in five single parents say miss social contact – almost three times the national average. In addition, divorced people are three times more likely as married couples, single people and people whose partner has died to say that they are lonely, the CBS said.
The survey has been published to coincide with the start of the ‘Week against Loneliness’ which will be launched by queen Maxima in Enschede on Wednesday.
