The long, hot summer – we’ve had 51 official summery days so far this year

August is far from over but the Netherlands has already enjoyed a record number of summer days – that is days on which the temperature topped 25 degrees at the De Bilt weather station near Hilversum.
On Sunday it was the 51st day this year in which temperatures are officially summery, equaling the record set in 2006, weather website Weeronline said.
The temperature is set to top that on Wednesday or Thursday this week, setting a new record, Weeronline said.
In an average summer there are 26 days on which the temperature tops 25 degrees. May and July have been particularly sunny, with 13 days in May hitting 25 degrees or above.
