The Netherlands earned nearly €30bn from foreign tourists last year, a rise of 12.6% on 2016, the national statistics office CBS said on Wednesday.

Dutch tourists spent €43bn on weekend breaks and day trips in the Netherlands, a rise of just 3.6%, the CBS said.

At the same time, the number of jobs in tourism rose nearly 4% to 761,000, well above the general job increase rate of 2.5%. In total, 7.5% of all jobs in the Netherlands are now tourism dependent, the CBS said.

Most of them are in the hospitality industry and many are part-time.
