A Dutch climber has died in an accident in the Swiss Alps Swiss police said on Tuesday afternoon.

The 60-year-old man was climbing on the Dent Blanche on Monday in the company of two other climbers. The mountain is 4,357 metres above sea level, which makes it one of the highest mountains in the range.

When the trio attempted the descent the man slipped and fell down 300 metres. When a trauma helicopter arrived the man had already died. It is unclear why the man slipped, police said.
