Body of missing Dutchman found in Laos jungle after kayak accident
The body of a 30-year-old Dutchman missing in Laos since Monday after being involved in a kayak accident has been found.
Mattijn Lahuis and two friends were out kayaking in the jungle with a guide, when the current suddenly got stronger and two of the kayaks hit a tree. Although the other three were able to scramble to safety, nothing more was heard from Lahuis.
According to local media, his body was found several kilometres from where the accident happened.
His family had launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise €70,000 to pay for a helicopter to help in the search.
‘We are deeply saddened by this news,’ the family said in a statement. ‘We are extremely grateful for all the support and donations. And thanks to this support, we now know what has happened to him.’
