Shock blog GeenStijl and a twitter user known as Eendevanger have been ordered to pay television personality Patricia Paay €30,000 for placing a sex video featuring the singer online.

Paay had demanded €450,000 in damages after stating the publication had lost her contracts and caused her immense personal grief.

The judge said both the website and the twitter user had acted unjustly by placing the video online and sharing it.

GeenStijl said in a statement after the verdict that it is glad the huge damages claim had been rejected. The website denies publishing the video, saying it had simply embedded the tweet on its website.

The court disagreed, saying that embedding a video has the same affect as publishing it. GeenStijl had a facilitating and encouraging role because of the site’s large reach, the court said.

Paay told television programme Jinek that the spreading of the video is the ‘worst thing that has ever happened to me’.
