Bertens sweeps past Pliskova to reach Wimbledon quarter-finals
Dutch tennis star Kiki Bertens followed up her victory over Venus Williams at Wimbledon last week by knocking out seventh seed Karolína Plísková in straight sets.
The 26-year-old from Wateringen won 6-3 7-6 (7-1) to reach the last eight at Wimbledon for the first time and only the second Grand Slam quarter-final of her career. The result also means all of the top 10 seeds in the women’s draw have been eliminated.
She will now play the German 13th seed Julia Görges, who beat the Croatian Donna Vekic in the fourth round, on Tuesday. Bertens is seeded 20th.
