One person was killed when a car belonging to a driving school collided with an oncoming train on a railway crossing in Bussum, local broadcaster RTV Utrecht reports. Another passenger made it safely out of the car in time.

Train services around the Naarden-Bussum train station have been severely disrupted. The NS is organising alternative transport.

Some reports suggest that the person who died was the instructor and that the learner driver, a young woman, had survived, but this had not been confirmed.
