The Easter weekend will be chilly and overcast with wet snow or sleet at times and little sunshine, weather bureaus said on Friday.

Saturday will be wet with bitter northerly winds on the northern coast and the temperature will drop to as low as 5 degrees on the Wadden Sea islands – a popular holiday destination during the Easter break. Further south it will be warmer, with temperatures of around 9 degrees, the KNMI weather bureau said.

Sunday will be chilly, with temperatures no higher than seven degrees and sleet could fall in some places. The temperatures will dip again overnight and there could be light frosts in sheltered places.

Monday will be wet, particularly in the west of the country, although there may be some sun in the south. The picture remains unchanged in the following few days but by next weekend there is a 60% chance of warmer, sunnier weather, the KNMI said.
