Maltese tourist arrested for fake bomb warning which halted train to Berlin
Dutch police have arrested a 45-year-old tourist from Malta for making a fake bomb report to police at Amsterdam’s central station on Thursday.
The man told police at the station he had found a letter warning that explosives had been placed on the international train to Berlin. The fake warning led to a major security alert and the train was evacuated near Oldenzaal while police checked it for explosives.
The man apparently turned himself into police on Saturday and was arrested.
A spokeswoman told news agency ANP that the police have suspicions about why the man made the fake report about the letter but that no further details are being released while the investigation continues.
