The Dutch women’s football team have won this year’s sports team of the year award at the annual contest organised by the Dutch sports federation NOC*NSF.

The Oranje players were at the RAI exhibition centre on Tuesday evening to pick up their award, following their victory in this summer’s European championships.

Cyclist Tom Dumolin, who became the first Dutchman to win the Giro d’Italia cycle race, took the award for sportsman of the year. Dumolin, 27, also won the world time trials title in Bergen in Norway.

Sprinter Dafne Schippers, who won the world 200 metres title in London this year, won the women’s award for the second time.
