Thursday is the last day of the mild weather, and temperatures will plunge on Friday, weather forecasters say.

On Thursday, when showers will be widespread, the temperature will be as high as 15 degrees in southern parts. The wind will start picking up later in the day and overnight the temperature will drop to around seven degrees, apart from in the south east, where it will be warmer.

On Friday the rain will move off in a south-easterly direction bringing colder air and some sunny spells.

The weekend will be windy with some sunshine and some rain or sleet in places. At night the temperature will fall to around freezing point and during the days it will be no higher than seven degrees, weather forecasters say.

The chillier weather with showers will continue well into next week, the KNMI weather bureau said.
