Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport is far too lax with aircraft safety, the Dutch airline pilots association VNV is claiming. The VNV sent an urgent letter expressing pilots’ concern to parliament on Wednesday, the Telegraaf has stated.

The VNV said despite serious warnings about the need to reduce chances of accidents at and around the airport, nothing has been done so far. No concrete measures have been taken while the airport continues to become busier, the organisation said.

Pilots complain about the complexity of Schiphol. They say there is a great need for measures to regulate safer taxiing between terminals and on the runways. Schiphol has six runways, far more than most large airports.

In April, the airport safety board reported that there were 50 serious incidents a year at Schiphol, including near misses in the air and on the runways. In its report, the board noted there was ‘a lack of urgency to improve safety at the airport.’
