Public prosecutor to investigate Amsterdam station incident
The public prosecution department has decided to carry out an additional investigation into an incident at Amsterdam Centraal station when a car drove into pedestrians in June, the NRC has reported.
Police reconfirmed earlier this week the incident, involving a 45-year-old diabetic, was nothing to do with a terror attack.
However, the public prosecutor told the paper on Thursday it would ask medical experts to look into whether having low blood sugar levels could have caused the driver to act as he did.
‘We have opted to do this to rule out everything,’ a spokesman is quoted as saying.
Shockblog website GeenStijl this summer leaked a police report into the incident which stated the driver had Moroccan nationality, giving rise to more suspicions that the accident was in fact a deliberate act.
The 45-year-old driver had got onto the tram tracks, been asked to move by police, then drove at high speed through a pedestrian area, hitting seven people before crashing
Ambulance tests showed no alcohol use but that he had low blood sugar levels. Attempted murder charges have been dropped but the man will still be pursued for traffic offences.
