ING gives green light to low emission lease cars only

Financial services group ING is setting strict new guidelines for the lease cars made available to senior staff, the Financieele Dagblad reported on Wednesday.

The aim is to build up a sustainable fleet of leased cars driven by ING executives, says the paper, which has obtained a copy of a confidential document regulating the leased cars.

In particular, ING staffers favouring a hybrid car had better make sure their vehicle is at the charging station daily or face a €1,500 fine. ING frowns on people driving hybrid cars using only their petrol engines, the FD said.

Roughly 10% of ING’s 12,000 employees in the Netherlands qualify for a company car and the new regulations apply to all cars leased by the bank after October 1 of this year.

‘ING wants to make the transition towards a more climate-proof company. Therefore ING has committed itself to the use of cars which emit less than 105 grams of CO2 per kilometre by 2020,’ a spokesman said.
