Five more Dutch documents have been included in Unesco’s Memory of the World programme, including that of Aletta Jacobs, womens’ rights activist and the first Dutch woman to graduate from university.

In total, 78 new archives have been added to the list, which aims to ‘safeguard the documentary heritage of humanity against collective amnesia, neglect, the ravages of time and climatic conditions, and willful and deliberate destruction.‘

The new Dutch contributions also include the archives of the Amsterdam Notaries, which cover 1578 to 1915, a film about the Westerbork deportation camp with footage from 1944,  part of the archive of philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein and part of the collection of stories about Javanese prince Panji.

Earlier Dutch contributions include the diary of Anne Frank and Karl Marx’s personal annotated copies of the Communist Manifesto and Capital.
