Westeros 2019: Game of Thrones clip is a Dutch tv show trailer
A Game of Thrones-inspired trailer for the new season of Dutch satirical show Zondag met Lubach has gone viral with fans speculating it could be a new show in the making.
The apparent trailer for Westeros 2019 appeared on YouTube last Tuesday, after the final Game of Thrones episode and features themes and characters recognisable to fans of the show but set in modern times.
Uploaded to an anonymous YouTube account, the video quickly spread, leading fans begging for it to be turned into a new series. ‘Want this to be real so badly!! WESTEROS: Modern day GOT,’ wrote one fan on Twitter.
‘The video gives us a glance of what GOT would look like if it was set in the modern era. The wondrous visuals of castles have been replaced by skyscrapers and concrete islands, weapons have been replaced by missiles, medieval soldiers have been replaced by gunmen and horses have been replaced by cars,’ writes Radio Times.
However, a second version, which went live on Monday, reveals the truth – the hooded figure at the end is shown to be Lubach himself, who sighs: ‘you know, I think I am in the wrong series’. Zondag met Lubach returns on September 10.
The spoof is the second by the Lubach team to go around the world. The first, ‘The Netherlands second’ introduced US president Donald Trump to the Netherlands, and spawned dozens of copies around the globe.
