Summer 2017 was warm, with no more rain than usual, say forecasters
The meteorological autumn starts this weekend but summer 2017 was not as bad as many people think, weather bureaus said on Thursday.
June, for example, was the warmest since official records began in 1901 and even though July and August were cooler, this year is still the 10th hottest summer on record, Weerplaza said.
Despite the impression that it rained a lot, there were an average 635 hours of sunshine in the three summer months, almost 30 more than average. In the south west, locals enjoyed some 700 hours of sunshine this year.
July was the sunniest month, with 230 hours of sunshine but also the wettest. In terms of rainfall, this summer was fairly normal, but July was wetter than the average year, with 110 mm of rain.
