A Scottish railway union has issued a short video complaining about the fact that Scottish train services are now in the hands of the Dutch.

The TSSA union video, which dwells on Scottish scenery including the famous Glenfinnan viaduct from the Harry Potter films, has a voice over in the style of a Scottish National party promotional film.

It points out the absurdity of Scottish railway services being run by Dutch state-owned company Abellio.

The ‘healthy profits’ made from Scottish consumers are given back to the Dutch railway system, the video points out, ending on ‘with all the profits going to the Dutch state, Huh?’

Rail users are then urged to sign a petition to have Scotrail services brought back into Scottish government hands.

‘The passengers of Scotland have paid a dividend of £1million each and every month to the Dutch state operator Abellio. Meanwhile, standards of service have deteriorated,’ the petition states. ‘At least 1 in every 10 trains in Scotland now runs more than 5 minutes late.

Abellio, part of Dutch state railway group NS, has had the contract to run Scottish services since 2015 and claims nine in 10 passengers are happy with the service.
