From A to Z: Amsterdam tops cafe terrace bill ranking, Zwolle is bottom
Amsterdam is the most expensive place in the country to enjoy drinks on a terrace and prices have gone up 2.8% this year, according to the latest survey by catering consultancy Van Spronsen & Partners.
A round of drinks made up of two coffees, two beers, two glasses of rose and two soft drinks hits an average €24.25 in the Dutch capital, compared with €21 in Zwolle, the report said.
In Nijmegen, where prices were the cheapest from 2011 to 2014, terrace prices have soared by 8.4% since last summer and the standard round now costs €22.25, just over the national average.
Prices also rose over 4% in The Hague and Almere but barely changed in Leiden, Utrecht and Eindhoven, the researchers said.
The research also shows that many cafes and bars did not pass on all of the increase in their costs to their customers. For example, over the past five years, the cost of a barrel of beer has risen 21.5% but a beer in a cafe is only 10.5% more expensive.
